Jones County has an excellent school system, offering a multiplicity of opportunities to its students. This first-class public school system has a proud tradition of academic excellence, and the community offers strong support toward that pursuit to excellence. Only resident students are eligible to attend Jones County Schools. All students must attend in their proper school district. AdministrationA five-member elected Board of Education establishes policy for the school system, with the appointed Superintendent, Jim LeBrun, serving as chief executive officer who provides initiative and leadership. SchoolsAt present the system consists of eight schools with an enrollment of over 5,000 within its Pre-K to 12 system. Strategic plans are already being developed for the next phase of expansion. Currently, the established schools are:
Pre-Kindergarten
StaffDuring the 2009-2010 school year, there are approximately 800 full-time employees including 450 Certified Personnel (teachers, counselors, administrators, etc.) within the system. More than 60 percent of the certified staff have master's degrees or higher. Twenty percent of all other professionals are enrolled in graduate programs leading to higher degrees. AccreditationAll schools meet or exceed State Standards and are accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Central Georgia Technical College
CGTC is a member of the state system of technical colleges which provide comprehensive academic and technical education, customized business and industry training, and continuing education services. At CGTC a wide diversity of career options is provided for students through associate degree programs, diploma programs, technical certificate programs, and a wide variety of business and industry and continuing education classes. The college is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Milledgeville Campus
The Milledgeville Campus began as a satellite campus located within the Baldwin County High School; however, it soon became evident that there was an increasing need for additional program options in the community. A new campus of CGTC was constructed and the facility, located on Highway 22, was first occupied 1997. The campus offers a variety of associate degree, diploma, and technical certificate programs, as well as numerous non-credit continuing education courses.
Macon State College
Mercer University Mercer is a private, co-educational university located in Macon, offering degrees through the college of liberal arts and schools of law, medicine, engineering, business, and education on its Macon campus. Mercer has been consistently ranked among the top regional colleges and universities in the South by US News and World Report. Wesleyan College Wesleyan was the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women in 1836. It is a four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church and located in Macon. More than 33 academic majors and minors plus self-designed, interdisciplinary studies and pre-professional programs in dentistry, engineering, law, medicine, and veterinary medicine are offered. Georgia College and State University GCSU, founded in 1889, is a senior college of the University System of Georgia, with an enrollment of more than 5,000 students. The University offers five schools: Arts and Sciences, Education, Business Nursing, and Graduate Studies in addition to a pre-professional program and Adult and Continuing Education courses on four campuses, with the main campus in Milledgeville.
